NGN FAVORITES: PRO WRESTLING IV-WWE RETURNS & DEBUTS

A few things add to the "experience" of witnessing a WWE debut or return. How I like the superstar, the music, the look, the crowd reaction, the moments that follow. One of each, all of the above, or various combinations of them.There were more, but these are the WWE debuts and returns that I can still remember and in some cases still get the chills and goosebumps even today.

Debuts:

Chris Jericho

I still get goosebumps watching this one. I didn't have the internet then, and didn't really have any friends who read the dirt sheets and whatnot, so I was shocked when "Jericho" appeared on the screen and Y2J appeared. He was one of the few WCW guys I enjoyed watching in my limited exposure to the product.

Tazz

The New York crowd kind of gave it away as Kurt Angle was cutting his promo, but they also added to their hometown boys WWE debut. The music, the lights, even the towel on his head made it look epic as the MSG gave possibly their biggest pop of Royal Rumble 2000/

The Undertaker

I can't remember if I watched this live or soon there after on VHS (yes, VHS). Regardless, all I can remember is that from moment one, the Deadman scared the sh!t out of me. Later adding Paul Bearer and the Funeral Parlor only made things worse haha

AJ Styles

The crowd pop wasn't as big as Jericho's (that could have been the audio though or arena acoustics), but it was still close and a big reaction from the crowd at the 2016 Royal Rumble. I could've cared less about the reaction as I was just pumped that the Phenomenal one was finally in the organization he belongs. Other companies helped prepare him, but the WWE stage is one AJ Styles belongs on.

Booker T and Diamond Dallas Page

Booker was given the better scenario with Austin, DDP was with Taker but the stalker angle was weird. Regardless, their arrivals meant The Invasion was officially on. Didn't get all of the big names, but I enjoyed this period regardless. Booker T and Diamond Dallas Page helped that.

Returns:

Stone Cold Steve Austin

Which time? Wrestlemania 32. When I noticed HBK was ready to wrestle, and then Mick came out I thought this was gonna be cool. The Rock is probably the third guy. Then "the glass broke", and I had my greatest feeling ever in sports entertainment haha I think my heart might have actually stopped for a moment before the goosebumps and the numerous "Holy Sh1t!!!"s sped from my mouth. Sure, he wasn't in his gear, but I knew I was about to relive my glory years and watch a classic Texas sized Can Of Whoop-Ass be opened. And the bit with The New Day was hilarious. One time deal, but that's sure better than nothing.

Shane McMahon

I got goosebumps with this one as well. The shock of Shane O'Mac returning, but also possibly the loudest crowd pop I've ever heard. Or perhaps it felt bigger as it has kind of been awhile of a worthy moment. Regardless, it was a huuuuuge ovation.

Undertaker

Again with the question of which time? Wrestlemania XX. We obviously knew he was returning, but when Paul Bearer's voice echoed his trademark, "Oh Yes!" it took things to another level. Then to see Taker's return to an updated Deadman gimmick was amazing. This was really the only thing I talked about with coworkers at that time leading up to Mania. Benoit was a Canadian boy, and this was obviously before the tragedy. But, it was how Taker will look and approach his character upon his return against Kane (who was at his best at that time in my opinion).

Triple H

His return from his first torn quad. WWE did an amazing job helping us remember not who he was (we wouldn't forget him) but what he did. Not even just the torn quad, and finishing the match. He tore his quad and finished the match in the *expletive* Walls Of Jericho!!!! If you think I am overselling, do the math. Jericho's finishing submission on top of the announce table wasn't helping The Game's fresh injury. Anyhow, the pop of the ever loud MSG crowd gave me goosebumps once again.

n.W.o.

I put them under returns as the same or similar reaction would've came sans the black and white. They were WWE made men which is what made the New World Order work in the beginning. The only "debut" was simply of the brand. Either way it was a great moment at the aptly named No Way Out. Crowd reaction and the entertainment. Scott Hall's line about maybe having some beers with the boys and Hogan and Nash saying no was hilarious (it's good to laugh sometimes).

Now I must admit that you won't find any of The Undertaker's string of Wrestlemania entrances. It isn't that they don't belong on here, it is because they would take up most if not all of the list. So, that will be saved for a future installment haha

Finn Balor (The Demon)

Th music for starters is one of the rare songs without lyrics that I like haha Combined with the body motions in sync with the music makes it good "normal" or "demonized". But, with the paint, the lights, and the anticipation to what Finn will show us next. So far my fav was the various Demons coming and going individually from the smoke, then having just Balor in Demon garb. Visually epic. I cannot wait to see this on a Wrestlemania stage. It is clear Taker has given him some pointers.

Kane/The Brood

I put them together because I love both, but always felt that the whole rising in a ring of fire should have been part of Kane's entrance. At Wrestlemania in the least. Kane is the music, lighting and pyro. The Brood was the ring of fire and blood ritual thing by Gangrel.

Undertaker

I said his Wrestlemania entrances wouldn't be on here haha It all starts with the lights cutting out and that bell tolling, followed by his music. Which has also evolved during the years, personal favorite was his Ministry Of Darkness days music wise. The trademark lights on routine is still a must have classic. The lights and visuals have gotten better over time. The titan tron and it's evolution has added to all of this.

Triple H

Another Mania entrance guy, but I like the basics of it all. It did look better when he had the long hair, but still works with the corporate buzzcut. Lights, Motorhead (The Game or King Of Kings), occasional laser lighting, and a bottle of water. Yes, a bottle of water. And the simplicity of it perhaps adds to it all. But, the water spews (initial and follow-up) just looks amazing in that light haha

Baron Corbin

It is kind of different on the RAW stage, but on NXT it looks amazing. Again with simplicity. Darkness, then a massive flash of blinding light, and as your eyes adjust Corbin fades into your view. The added footstep spotlights cutout thing is great too, but loses it again on a RAW stage. At Mania it would look great, but only in a closed arena or at night. Pitch black night, not the "evening" haha

The Wyatt Family

This started off very cool all in itself. You got the "new age Undertaker" vibe in the sense of the darkness from it. The crowds have added to the effect with the "fireflies". Which looks better and better with growing supporters and bigger arenas. This would still be cool in the pre cell phone era with thousands of lighters lighting up the pitch black arena.

As like most things I list, it is ever evolving. New superstars, evolution of established stars. As technology gets better, I can't wait to enjoy things to come. Until then, Stay Nerdy!

NGN FAVORITES: PRO WRESTLING II-FINISHING & SIGNATURE MOVES

Another installment of my favorite things in sports entertainment and professional wrestling. This time I am listing my favorite signature and finishing moves. At times the two get confused, but signatures are more of a simple trademark move that isn't always getting a finish from it. It does at times, but it isn't really supposed to. Finishers are divided into "impact laced" and submissions.

Fav Signature Moves

• The People's Elbow (The Rock)
• 5-Knuckle Shuffle (John Cena)
• The Spinarooni (Booker T)
• The Spear (Goldberg)
• Stratusphere (Trish Stratus)

I hated when The Rock used The People's Elbow to win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. It was his signature, not either of his finishers (even though nobody should tap to his Sharpshooter haha). Love it either way and was the precursor to others as well Cena and Booker for sure. Booker's has nothing to do with actual wrestling moves, but it shows the arrogance or confidence (depending on heel/face) so it makes the cut. The Spear is used as a finisher in most cases now, but Goldberg used almost exclusively as a Signature Move before delivering The Jackhammer (he even did it on Show). Stratusphere is on there as it showed Trish her creativity, as we hadn't seen the men doing that at that time. Plus, it looks great.

Fav Finishing Moves

• Stone Cold Stunner (Steve Austin)
• RKO (Randy Orton)
• Hellavator (Matt Morgan)
• The Last Ride (Undertaker)
• KO Punch (Big Show)

The Stunner and RKO (and Diamond Cutter) are there for the out of nowhere and ring clearing ability. Well, it looks good when done on everyone. The RKO would be tops if not for Austin, but what Randy Orton and his opponents have done with the move puts in right under it. Morgan's Hellavator just looked cool. Taker's Last Ride was basically a power bomb, but that little extra lift just made it feel like it had more impact. Not everyone likes the KO Punch, but to me if a Giant punches you on the button, you're going for a snooze. If they wanted to add to things, the people who are only staggered by an initial blow would be considered tough as hell. They could make it where he actually misses and gets caught in another persons finisher at times.

Fav Submission Moves

• Sharpshooter
• Walls Of Jericho
• Figure 8
• Kimora
• Bank Statement

When I say that The Sharpshooter is my favorite, I mean when delivered like Bret Hart or Natalya, and not The Rock haha And when I say Walls Of Jericho, I mean the original neck torquing version and not the Boston Crab that he does mostly now. Charlotte has shown she better than Daddy with a simple elimination of illegal rope use to add to the submission. It also shows her superior athletic gifts. The Kimora simply adds realism to things, obviously not going to break an arm, but there is that "if he wanted to" vibe when someone like Brock Lesner slaps it on someone. Sasha Banks' Bank Statement is more of a combo, but it ends in a submission and the whole thing just looks great.

This is somewhat ever evolving as I see new moves, and sometimes it is "who" and how they look delivering it. The Sharpshooter again is an example of that.

NGN FAVORITES: PRO WRESTLING I-SUPERSTARS 

THINGS CENA WASN'T GIVEN

I've seen many a postings about John Cena being given everything. Some foolish enough to think he doesn't at least earn what he gets, which he does. But, when you are the top guy for so long it will appear as though you are just the boss' b!tch. It happens. Regardless, despite everything that John Cena has earned over the past decade there are some things he didn't and in some cases will not get (ever). Allow my Non-Geeky Nerd butt to list those for you haha

The Undertaker's Wrestlemania Undefeated Streak

If there were a list of guys, I am sure Cena was on it along with Triple H, Kurt Angle (supposedly), etc. But, it didn't happen and Brock Lesner became the 1 in 21 and 1 (I feel like that should've began with "My name is...." haha). It is something we could still see depending on how many more Mania's we have The Phenom for. And it would still mean something win or loss. Not because of a streak, but because it is still The Undertaker.

WWE Intercontinental Championship

Of the active championships, the Intercontinental title is the one championship John hasn't won. It has evolved over the years, but the "grand slam" right now would be WWE World Heavyweight Championship, WWE Intercontinental Championship, WWE United States Championship, and the WWE Tag Team Championship. Cena is a title short at this point in time. Although it could be achieved before he retires.

Stone Cold Steve Austin

Possibly even more so than with The Rock, I am sure John wants/wanted this to happen. He got the "torch passing" with Austin giving him a beer at a Hall Of Fame ceremony, but it lacked anything really. Don't know about others, but I felt like Cena's run using a Springboard Stunner was a way to draw the Texas Rattlesnake out of retirement. Yes, I am aware of how adamant Austin is about being done, but a boy can dream for...one...more...match! If Wrestlemania 32 is as close as we get, then fine, but a boy can still dream haha

WWE Divas Championship

This started as just a joke, but then my dirty mind took into an obvious direction. Which would be John and Nikki getting it on, when out of nowhere he puts her in the STF, makes her tap, then proceeds to run around the room naked with the WWE Divas Championship belt in the air haha Okay that was a toned down version but you get it haha

That is what comes to mind at this point in time, I am sure I will think of more things later or be given a new example haha It isn't so much he's been handed the 15 World titles and other accolades, it is more that it has become "Hogan just before nWo" levels of staleness.

UNDERTAKERS LAST MATCH

In the world of professional wrestling and sports entertainment, we as fans never really know until we are told when it is an official last match.  There may be a final WWE match, ie Ric Flair, but the list of people who would be finished with the business after that is pretty low. Even now with WWE being the only big promotion right now (sorry indy peeps), a lot of WWE's roster would simply go back to the independents, even TNA if they are desperate for a late pay cheque haha Names on that list would be John Cena or  Randy Orton. Top of that list though would be, The Undertaker. Sure, Kevin Nash reference him coming to WCW at one  point, but that could have possibly been simply bullsh!t (which Nash likes do to mess with the IWC haha) or possibly that WWE was in rough shape at that time. There was almost a chance we'd be watching WCW right now. With Taker, there isn't going to be independent shows like Scott Steiner and other legends. And it isn't because WWE owns the name. Mark Calaway would still draw without it at this point.

So, how would my non-geeky nerd butt book Underaker's final WWE match and moment? As always, I am so happy that you asked haha Many people would have the match come at the grandest stage of them all, Wrestlemania. Understandable, given the spectacle the event is and how much the Deadman has been a major part of that.  Taker was and is much more than his Wrestlemania streak. It hadn't even become a "thing" until late into the streak. His greatest matches came with Triple H and HBK at Wrestlemania, but he still had great and just as memorable moments outside of Wrestlemania. Ya, we're getting Hell In A Cell at Wrestlemania 32, but the best Undertaker HIAC matches were Badd Blodd and King Of The Ring (obviously). Buried Alive matches, Casket matches, etc. He won his first WWE Championship (against Hogan of all people) at Tuesday In Texas. And of course, his origins that stem from Survivor Series.
That is where I would have it happen, Survivor Series, his opponent and type of match that is the hard part for me. A Casket and Buried Alive matches are the choices for me, being the almost soul Taker matches. However, with these options I would have the Phenom lose his final match (which is almost the norm in the business). In a straight up match, I would prefer Taker get the win. My choices for the opponent are Bray Wyatt, Kane, and John Cena. If Taker is losing, then Bray. If winning, then why not one last time with his "brother" (who wouldn't be effected at all character wise). Why is Cena an option? Just one of the many things he could do as a heel to garner heat. Beat Undertaker in his last match, almost especially cleanly, fans would garner even more hate. But, that was covered before (and likly again).

It almost all falls onto how Taker exits things post match. Does he walk out of the arena through the massive gratitude  and applause of the crowd? He's earned it. It could be the one time we saw him "crack". If I am sticking with the character, going classic with new day upgrades. Lights cut, lightening strikes (ring, casket, or headstone, smoke, sound effects, etc. If a Casket or Buried Alive match, druids or Kane come out to reveal an empty casket or grave. Steal from the Wyatts and have the lights cut again, everything disappears. If in the ring, then Taker doing his trademark kneel, lights cut out, lightening strike, spotlight on the center of the ring. The ring would be empty, with only an urn in the middle. Done. If I am being honest, that would be better. Taker doesn't need to put anyone over on his way out, and it would be a thank you to both fans and the man behind the legend that is Undertaker.

Survivors Series. Possibly against Kane. Win. Trademark kneel. Lights out. Lightening and smoke. Spotlight. Urn. End of the greatest WWE career of all time. Hogan, Stone Cold, Cena, anyone. Always be second in comparison. And will be an emotional moment for everyone wrestlers and fans alike. I am similar to that of Big Show, and not afraid to show some tears haha Yes, he always has more reason to do so, but still he's my "save" for ridicule. "Oh ya? Would you make fun of Show for this? Look at him. Ya, that's what I thought" haha

WRESTLEMANIA QUICK RESULTS & OPINION

Pre-Show:

WWE United States Championship Match

Kalisto wins and retains US Championship

-This match was on too early, as there were a lot of empty seats as fans had just begun to enter the stadium. Which really took away from the match, and maybe even Ryback and Kalisto's experience. Record setting crowd, and they had to come out to what felt like only a couple hundred people. Kalisto especially is a high spot guy, and needs a crowd to really get his stuff over.

8 Divas Tag Team Match

Paige, Natalya, Brie Bella, & Eva Marie win

I missed this match mostly, being not prepared for such an early start (match wise). But will say that I am happy all of the women made it onto the card this year. Highlight for me was the unveiling of the new WWE Women's Championship. Not a fan of white, but love that it is a WOMENS title, and looks like the WWE Championship.

The Uso's V Dudley Boyz

Uso's with the victory.

A good match to set the tone of the main show. Crowd reaction says that perhaps the Dudleyz and Uso's should have swapped in regards to baby face and heel. Even the post match table sequence didn't get them cheers.

Main Show:

WWE Intercontinental Championship Ladder Match

Zack Ryder is the new Intercontinental Champion.

A lot of holy shit moments. A lot. Main spots for me came from Zayn, with dive through ladder and almost killed KO. Ryder win was a shock. Good for him though. Hopefully creative doesn't bury him again.

AJ Styles V Chris Jericho

Chris Jerico wins with a Code Breaker.

Was phenomenal as expected for a match that is for pure bragging rights. AJ didn't get stirred (or appeared not to) in his first Wrestlemania, showing one of many reasons he needed to skip NXT. It will be interesting to see where things go.

The New Day V The League Of Nations

League Of Nations win.

Only disappointment in this one was lack of the Kofi Skip in the entrance (which stared with a massive box of Booty-Ohs). League Of Nations showed 4 was greater than 3 against The New Day. Post match began to brag about that.
That is when HBK's music hit, but he was in his ring gear, then Mick Foley's music hit as he came out ready to fight. Then my heart stopped for a moment. The glass broke. The crowd exploded. Was jeans and t-shirt but Stone Cold Steve Austin joined the group, as they headed to the ring and whooped some ass. As close as we'll ever get to seeing any of those three men in a match, so I will goddamn take it.

Brock Lesner V Dean Ambrose

Brock wins with a F-5 onto a pile of chairs.

Heyman's face for everything made the violence that more entertaining. Thought Ambrose was gonna get a clean pin (as clean as it can get in a street fight) at some points in this one. Ambrose IS this generations Mick Foley, I should add. I am shocked there wasn't blood though, only "color" was from the welts and scraps. Which were on both men. Lesner we always know will deliver a beating, just like we know Ambrose can always take one. This time there were moments where the roles were reversed showing more toughness for each.

WWE Women's Championship Match

Charlotte retains with help from Daddy.

Good match as expected, and just as good as the main event.Any of these women winning would've been a win for fans.  They went the route of Charlotte retaining, with Naitch stopping Sasha from saving Becky from taking the loss. I love the new(original) name and championship belt. Not a fan of white straps, but it is growing on me, as the rest of it is appealing and is very similar to the WWE Championship. The WWE Women's Championship and Division has returned! Next year, this could be either the second last match as a co-main event, or even be the last match aka THE main event.

Hell In A Cell

Shane McMahon V Undertaker

Another match I am surprised there wasn't blood, Taker had a dribble, but there was so much room for error that blood shed seemed inevitable. Shane with The Van-Terminator was as epic as it was over a decade ago. My gf couldn't watch THE elbow drop, and even I was wondering if I was about to watch a man die. Had feelings going in that it could happen, but the moment Shane looked up we knew someone was about to fly. I was perfect. Ya, Shane has taken the plunge from extreme heights before, but not through a table like he did at Wrestlemania 32. Am I the only one wondering how this plays out story line wise? Was looking forward to RAW V Smackdown!, or just a brand split.

The Wyatt Family V The Rock And John Cena

The Rock And John Cena win.

I knew right away The Rock was ready to wrestle after a big entrance. How? His boots haha Noticed them and immediately realized what they were. I was surprised to see Bray and company. Not about them being at Mania (as I was waiting to see how they would be involved), but against The Rock. The People's Champ owned on the mic as always, but Bray held his own in their small battle (how Bray didn't crack at parts I don't know). Cena, I also knew would be involved tonight, but didn't expect this either. It was an okay moment. Made for an okay surprise, but a build up could have been epic.

The Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal

Baron Corbin wins.

Was nice to see this used as the "buffer" match, and was happy to see DDP. And was happy in many ways, but mostly for my gf seeing what I meant by Shaq could've been a WWE star. He's a big man, not your typical tall and skinny NBA centers. I didn't even know Baron was in it, or I would have considered him. Does this mean he is on the main roster now? His win works either way, either as a good start to a main roster career or as bragging rights over everyone in NXT having achieved his glory over main roster stars.

WWE World Heavyweight Championship Match

Roman Reigns regains the title.

The match itself was really good. From start to finish. Stephanie even looked amazing and was part of Triple H's entrance (which was great as per usual). Steph' even took a spear from Reigns which was a great high spot. Only thing this match lacked was crowd support. The live audience gives and takes away from these moments. And the closing cheers felt like they were dubbed in by WWE. Again, great match but just lacked that crucial crowd support. Another thing that will be interesting to see

It was one of, if not the best Wrestlemania's in a long time. The entire weekend was great. But, the main attraction was on par. Like the Hall Of Fame, it felt more on the fly and not so scripted. If that makes sense. Like every year I am looking forward to the next nights RAW. This year I am pumped.

WRESTLEMANIA 32 MATCHES & PREDICTIONS

It is that time of year again. The time wrestling fans of all levels have been waiting for. Wrestlemania! Wooooooooooo! And this year doesn't look to be a disappointing one, at least on paper. But, the only things that could seemingly go wrong are stage fright and injuries. Beyond that, this card is pretty stacked. Especially it is injuries that have John Cena, Seth Rollins, Randy Orton, Cesaro, and others out of action and likely to miss out on Wrestlemania 32. Obviously, like many others, I have predictions and opinions on it all haha And they would be...

The Usos V The Dudley Boyz

 Prediction: The Usos

-Although I want The Dudleyz to win, they are back in WWE to help the next gen. Usos aren't as over as they once were, and Bubba n Devon will get a massive pop the first time they break their current "no tables" rule. Plus, it leaves open the chance for Bubba to turn on Devon and become Bully.

Lana, Naomi, Tamina, Summer Rae, & Emma

Brie Bella, Paige, Natalya, Alicia Fox & Eva Marie

 Prediction: Brie, Paige, Natalya, Alicia, & Eva Marie

 -Likely Brie's last Mania as she joins Daniel Bryan, so a good send off if she does retire. Must say that although this is slightly a filler match, it is great to see that all the women...Divas got on the card this year, and that the title will be defended later on. Two Divas matches at Wrestlemania, and none of them are bra-n-panties type or have any celebrity involvement. That does show how much things have change. Kudos. But please don't let there be yet another turn by Paige among all of this haha

The Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal

Kane, Big Show, Mark Henry, Heath Slater, Curtis Axel, Adam Rose, Bo Dallas, Goldust, R-Truth, Jack Swagger, Tyler Breeze, Viktor, Konnor, Fandango, Darren Young, Damian Sandow, and more?

Prediction: Kane

-Was hard to pick really, as this match holds no real meaning. No offense to Andre's memory, it is just it is a filler type match with a trophy. Hard to really steal the show in a battle royal too. Positive note is that the wrestlers use this as their Wrestlemania appearance and pay day. And since it really leads to nothing, why not put over other legendary big guys like Kane or even Mark Henry(my runner up for being worthy as well as a Texas boy) before they retire. Sure, an up and comer could win, but why not be the guy who beats the winner after a nice build up?

The League Of Nations V The New Day

Prediction: The New Day

 -I thought that the WWE Tag Team Championship was on the line, but it appears to be not the case. Which is okay, as it gives everyone a chance to be in the ring. Can't see The New Day losing this one, given they are over with the WWE Universe and WWE themselves are "behind" them. NEW DAY!

 

Chris Jericho V AJ Styles

 Prediction: AJ Styles

-Honestly, this could go either way and make sense in my head haha Fan of both, but Jericho is my past, AJ my future if we get all deep with things. It would be a great start to a promising WWE career. AJ skipped NXT, and went straight to the main roster labeled as the hottest free agent. What better way to show that than with a dub at Mania? Regardless though, this match is sure to be phenomenal. Pun intended, but also applies to both guys performances.

WWE Intercontinental Championship

Ladder Match

The Miz V Dolph Ziggler V Sami Zayn V Stardust V Sin Cara V Zack Ryder V Kevin Owens (C)

Prediction: Sami Zayn

-Shockers would be Ryder and Sin Cara. Slight shockers would be The Miz, Ziggler, or Stardust. Zayn got the "rub" plus a likely seal of approval from Cena, added with previous heat and great matches with Owens, and that is my "why". I can see Owens retaining, but this sets up the feud. Plus, KO is a great heel both as the antagonize and as a "cry baby" type. You stole my belt so I kick ruin your life or I cry about it. Those are the options I see.

WWE United States Championship

Ryback V Kalisto (C)

Prediction: Kalisto

-Kalisto is pretty over with the WWE Universe, and has "Next Gen' Rey Mysterio" written all over him given his size, move set, and marketable mask. Ryback hasn't done too much latley beyond going from the singlet to trunks. Although I can see a disgruntled from losing Sin Cara doing a run in and turning on Kalisto. But, that could also be done after the match or on RAW the next night.

Dean Ambrose V Brock Lesner

Prediction: Dean Ambrose

-This one was really hard to pick. Lesner "lost" last year at Wrestlemania 31 when Seth Rollins pinned Roman Reigns after cashing in his Money In The Bank briefcase. But, this has to be "more" than Dean Ambrose showing us he can take a beating. Street Fight rules and a certain Bray Wyatt seemingly having nothing to do *cough*run in on Lesner*cough* would "protect" Brock Lesner's character of being The Conqueror. One things is for sure, no blood rile or not, there is going to be some color in this one.

WWE Divas Championship

Becky Lynch V Sasha Banks V Charlotte (C)

Prediction: Sasha Banks

-Becky although just as deserving, is the dark horse  in this one. Charlotte is the favorite to retain I think, but Sasha Banks is Snoop Doggs cousin, and although also just as deserving, blood and money may play into Vince's decision on this one.

Prediction: Shane McMahon

-Hardest match to predict this year. But, the stipulations and their outcomes play into what I want, which is brand split between RAW and Smackdown!. And if Undertaker is going to have a last match, although I get why many feel it should be at a Mania, I however think it should be at a Survivor Series where he originated. Also, I have a feeling Shane won't be alone after Sting appears, and we get as close as we will to Sting V Undertaker at Wrestlemania. Not as good, but a huge moment none the less. Remember Degeneration X and nWo last year? Not as awesome, but great regardless.

WWE World Heavyweight Championship

Roman Reigns V Triple H (C)

Prediction: Roman Reigns

-This has been a 2 year process. Vince wants Roman as the top guy, as per usual fans are resisting, not so much Reigns but how Vince is making him approach this. Triple H winning the WWE World Heavyweight Championship was for this moment. I've mentioned in a previous blog entry about this being a good time for Cena to turn heel by simply joining The Authority and Triple H literally hands him his 16th World Title on RAW, use this as a last ditch effort to get Reigns over again. Cena won't change anything but simply acknowledging he is now a heel and fans will despise that and add that he would now be tied with Flair, they may beg for anyone to take him down. Summerslam, or even a year from now Reigns reclaims his title...maybe even a Sting like approach going silent or minimal verbal for a year (it is what most seem to chirp about, his new mic work). All that, or simply have a reunion of The Shield with Reigns as champ. Not sure when Rollins is due back, but story line wise he could have learned error of his ways during time away and is bitter Triple H is/was Champ. Ambrose, 'cause why the F not...looking around at all of the factions at the moment. Split them up again if the brands split.

I am actually excited to see Wrestlemania 32 on the WWE Network for $11.99 (I'm Canadian), as this show looks worth double of what it cost on PPV. Shane O'Mac is back, and brings possibility of RAW and Smackdown! separating. This could be Undertaker's last match at Wrestlemania (if not ever, given he is from Texas). Brock and Ambrose in a Street Fight and the Ladder Match for the IC title are the only things that has me concerned, but only for everyone's well being. They're going to be barn burning, slobber knockers for sure. AJ Styles at Wrestlemania? Nuff said. And for the first time in the history of Wrestlemania, other than my teen years (haha), I am looking forward to seeing the women blow the proverbial roof of the place. Some legends are likely to make appearances, just looking forward to how they are involved. Stone Cold Steve Austin in his home state, The Rock, HBK, will Hogan return? And that is just the most likely things, don't forget about the surprises and shockers. And never forget to tune into RAW the next night, as it tends to be the RAW of the year some times. Surprises, Mania fallout, beginning of new directions. 

THE UNDERTAKER MOVIE

Awhile ago, there were reports that WWE was planning to do an Undertaker movie. Not an autobiography of Mark Calaway, and not directly of the WWE Hall Of Famer (matter of when, not if) we've seen in the ring. It would be a movie simply about The Undertaker with the Hollywood touch of scripts, action sequences, special effects, etc.

Everyone has their own opinions on how they would go about this and would like to see in the film. Personally, it would be a cross between The Crow, Fight Club and a Western movie, with added sci-fi vibes to the script and presentation. I don't think I would have guns really, but a lot of hand to hand combat. With a majority of Undertakers move sets involved in the fight scenes with twists of course. Imagine an enemy laying off the edge of a building or something, Taker does the classic leg drop. Except this time there is obviously no apron, but he does the move and actually decapitates the person before vanishing into a cloud of smoke in midair. I would also consider having Kane be involved as well. Now that I think of it, he could play the roll of the main instigator, or the muscle of the main villain. Can show a flashback of Takers home being burned to the ground, his family inside. Only to have this monster return later. Not far from what they did in WWE, but with a major Hollywood upgrade.
I don't know if I would have Undertaker (Mark Calaway) play himself or have a hunt for someone who looks like him and can actually act. If it were done a few years ago, or made right now? The real Deadman for sure. As of right now he could do most of the work himself, and if need be, make him younger looking via however they do it haha

As for how I end it. Remember then ending of Conan The Conqueror? With Arnold as an aged King? That is when the Taker we see today appears sans young effects, or the real Undertaker will appear if we used another actor.

It is of course likely to "never" get made, or will be at least a few years from now. However, that doesn't mean it shouldn't. Undertaker is one of the few characters from over the years that you wouldn't necessarily need to make a "wrestling" movie. Till next time, stay Nerdy!

TRUE RAW V SMACKDOWN!

We are not in the early 2000's anymore. Back then, I don't know about anyone else but I like to think the majority of us 80's kids were  on our own at that time and although we may have been able to afford the internet, a computer was a different story. Nowadays, almost everyone has access to the internet. Whether it be through their phones, tablets, at home hacking the neighbors wifi, where ever. My point? Having a pre-taped Smackdown! doesn't bode as well against a live RAW.

Now, I know that the cost of a live production is pretty high, but wouldn't the possible payoff be worth it? The basic reason we enjoy a live show is the unpredictability. Mishaps, surprises, it all adds to the show. With Smackdown!, we all have had access to spoilers for years. Nowadays here in Canada, we have Smackdown! aired on Wednesdays instead of Thursdays.
If WWE is to truly have a brand split, it would almost make sense for it to be with both RAW and Smackdown! being live shows. Completely separate from each other too. Saving the "crossovers" for unicorn-esque rarity. Even if say a person is fired from RAW, they aren't always guaranteed to show up on Smackdown!, sometimes the person is legitimately future endeavored. Not all performers would be willing, but having a small bit where the fired RAW wrestler shows up at Smackdown! looking for a job, only to be denied.
Now, another part could be nobody wanting to work every Thursday night (similar to Triple H back in the day apparently). To make the brand even more appealing, perhaps add a bonus of sorts for being apart of Smackdown! They need to not repeat the mistake of making Smackdown! the "feeder" brand for RAW. Undertaker was really the only mainstay way back when, everyone else it was a matter of time before they switched once they were over with the crowds and Vince.
Personally, I would break it all down as such; Initial draft. 2 World titles, 2 Womens titles, US on one and IC on the other, 2 tag titles. Not bringing back the cruiserweight championship. Everyone is a contender for the titles. Bringing back the Cruiserweight division almost allows Vince to pigeon hole people. Then, once a year there would be a trade deadline similar to that of the NHL and other sports. Not another draft to shake things up again, but trades between brands, and sign "free agents" from those coming up from NXT and returning stars.
That is the other reason I am hoping WWE makes Smackdown! a viable alternative for RAW, NXT. If and when Vince is finished with a RAW v Smackdown! storyline, I am hoping he leaves NXT alone, and doesn't try to add them to the "war" or make them the follow-up opposition. Simply make Smackdown! great again in todays world, RAW will be possibly infused with attention as well, and then use NXT for what it is meant for, and that is a farming system. True, they are a brand. But, they're still the starting point for many performers.

As always, I don't know the ins and outs of this type of stuff. I just think that this is a way to reboost the business. Create your own competition using your own product. TNA and others aren't keeping up, and wrestling seemingly has only ever been great when there has been some form of even level competition. Crockett and WWF (WWE) were the 80's, things got stale as Crockett became Turner's WCW in early 90's, then as WCW got better as did WWE. Now I am not saying direct competition, WCW focused too much on WWE at times and well we all know the reasons and what happened.

MOMENTS IN WRESTLING I LIKED, OTHERS HATED

I'm not normal, but not one to always have to go against the grain either. There are moments I am with the general opinion, and there are times I am against it. In terms of bad moments in wrestling or sports entertainment, here are my opposing opinions...

End Of The Streak

Either one. Goldberg's and Undertaker's. Both finishes worked for me, and made sense. First with Goldberg, was there really any other way to end the streak? They went with a run-in and a taser/cattle prod. The problem was that they had no idea how to use Goldberg after that. Ending showed it took 2 men and a weapon that takes down cattle to beat him.

With Taker, it is a "if they're gonna do it, this is how" type deal for me. Didn't want The Undertaker's Wrestlemania Undefeated Streak to end, but if it was then I am glad it was Brock Lesner. Reasons being, Lesner is a legit badass, freak of nature, however you want to put it. Who else could handle the heat that would come with being the 1 in 21-1? Brock gives zero sh!ts about what we think, especially in the real world. Then there is the "what if...?" aspect of if someone else did it. What if their careers are cut short due to injury or personal problems? It would end up being a waste.

Finger Poke Of Doom

Hold on a minute, I enjoyed the initial moment of it. I thought it was part of a bigger storyline. Not just reuniting of the nWo. Perhaps if someone came out and said that things weren't happening that way, and brought out say Goldberg and face both Hogan and Nash for the title. He destroys them, and turns tables on Scott Hall going to the well too many times. I don't know, again the initial moment made me go, "Ohhh, sh!t." and then it turned into, "this is sh!t".

Chris Benoit Tribute

It was the last moment Chris Benoit was cast in a positive light or really even mentioned again. Now, I am absolutely no way condoning what happened. Even with the chance that it was purely brain damage related (which is hard to fully press judgment, as we are all capable of that with a damaged brain), I am not saying we need to honor Chris Benoit, I am just picking a moment in time where a great wrestler was remembered or honored for a final time. Benoit the wrestler? Legendary. The person? Will never know for sure.

The Invasion

When it first appeared to be guys like Shawn Stasiak and Mark Jindrak at Wrestlemania X-7, I was like "crap." I liked seeing Chavo and Lance Storm, but it didn't seem like much. But, then pieces began to reveal themselves, and I was actually pleased with the "final roster" of WCW and ECW's Alliance. Booker T, Diamond Dallas Page, Kris Kanyon, RVD, Lance Storm, Sean O'Haire, etc. were the guys that were actually working on WCW every week up until the end. The big stars minus Steiner, were come and go mostly, and not at all near the end.

There are others, I simply cannot think of them at the moment, so perhaps for a future entry. Till then...

INJURY BUG LOOKING MORE LIKE A PLAGUE

Neville. Seth Rollins. John Cena. Cesaro. Tyson Kidd. That's just the performers who are out of action at the moment (could be forgetting some) due to injury. There are some others who are apparently working through their injuries, but are injured none the less.

Why is this happening more frequently nowadays? There have always been runs where people would get injured and be on the shelf for awhile. But, not really in the cluster it is right now, right before Wrestlemania to make things worse.Mind you, the wrestlers out right now are out with major injuries. Neville breaking his ankle and shin last night on Raw during a baseball slide. Kidd is still healing from surgery on his broken neck (hopefully he can come back from this, we all know he'll give his all in the attempt). Basically, the type of injuries the "old school" guys wouldn't have been able to work through no matter how much or what type of "gimmick" they use to numb the pain. Although the late Kerry Von Erich did wrestle after losing his foot, unbeknownst to me anyhow. But, everyone else seemed to be "done" after major injuries, partly because of where the medical field was at those times (unlike today), but finished regardless.
So again, why is this? It is getting harder to argue that the style and pace of today's wrestling is playing a factor into things. The schedule is still massive, but not what it once was. The performers are almost in superior condition compared to yesteryear. Only real difference is the style and pace. Sure, a high flyer like Neville got injured with a routine none high risk move. But, who's to say the wear and tear from before didn't play a part in things. A doctor could maybe, but again, just trying to make a
Could we go back to a slower paced, less high risk style of sports entertainment? Would fans "allow" that? Looking back at the greats of all time to the recent ones, they had a slower pace. Stone Cold, The Rock, Undertaker, Randy Orton. They didn't have a high risk style of move sets. Sure, Taker added some, but they were almost reserved for moments that called for it. Meaning he didn't do them all the time, so it made them stand out more when he did.

So, perhaps it is time to tone things down. We already have to now worry about others joining Daniel Bryant in retirement due to concussions. Which are always a risk with even the most basic of bumps. Speaking of D-Bryan, he showed that the audience can dictate things, and with all these stars out it is the era of opportunity right now. Creative or Vince can't hold anyone back right now, even if they wanted to.

DREAM MATCHES

The obvious would be something like Big Show V Andre The Giant, or  Stone Cold V Goldberg, but attempting to take the least obvious route. Some will be ridiculous to some, while others may have made for a decent match at a certain point of time.

Brock Lesner V Scott Steiner

Not sure if this happened or not in WWE during the early 2000's, but even if it had it likely wasn't really a match with a story behind it. This match would put a lot of things to the test. Most notably, professionalism. Both are legit amateur wrestlers. Both are freaks of nature. Both have egos. Whether "on the same page" or not, this would make for a true slobber knocker. You know, like how Lesner V Goldberg was supposed to be.

Bret Hart V Kurt Angle

Two reasons. I'm Canadian, and love "Canada V USA" stuff in wrestling (especially with Bret). Also, have you seen Chris Benoit V Kurt Angle matches? If not, go take a look. Sure, Bret has a different style with not so much explosiveness, but technically gifted beyond most. Put that against someone at par if not further ahead in technical ability and we have gold. No, not what is around Angle's neck.

Samoa Joe V Taz

It was a rare "TNA did something right" moment when they paired Taz with Joe in a mentor type role. The styles were similar. Looks....kinda, kinda not. Regardless, this would have made for an amazing match if Taz were still able to safely go in the ring. Although the "Muscle Buster" would make me cringe now if on someone with neck issues. But again, most of the moves.throws performed in this match, and how they are performed might keep my stomach on the edge of its own seat let alone me on mine....trying not to yak.

Undertaker V Andre The Giant

The Deadman seems to be able to have a decent to great match with anyone (ie Giant Gonzalez). What could he have done with Andre before or even after his prime. It would be safe to say that Andre would have "accepted" 'Taker, given the locker room status he has. If not, likely would be Andre trying to be alpha. Even then, The Phenom would have a good match with The 8th Wonder Of The World.

Kurt Angle V Ken Shamrock

Most probably thought I would go with Lesner in place of Angle. Understandably. However, this has been in my mind since the moment Kurt Angle began using the Ankle Lock as his Finishing Submission move. I immediately thought of Shamrock. Given the knowledge now of MMA, I don't worry too much about Kurt getting messed with, or provoking anything given what he pulled of with Jeff Jarrett and their circumstances.

There are others, just simply can't think of the ones that aren't your typical dream match.

Rumors

Making my rounds reading things across the web, some headlines and rumors caught my attention. Now which are 100% truth, and which are completely untrue, we'll never know unless they actually happen, and/or are admitted by legitimate sources. A lot are hard not to believe, even if far from the truth. None the less they are quite interesting.

STING & WWE

Now every year really since Vince McMahon won the Monday Night War, people have been speculating that Sting was going to sign on with the WWE. Especially at this time of year with the "Road To Wrestlemania" and the Hall Of Fame inductions, and The Undertaker's "Streak".
This time around however, there seems to be some valid steam behind the rumors this year. Sting is currently not under contract nor working with TNA Wrestling, and according to the bigger wrestling sites, the deal with WWE is all but finalized.
The ink isn't even on the dotted line yet, but rumors of who, what, when and where are rabidly swirling around, "Will he face Taker at Wrestlmania XXX? Or will it be next year when WM31 is in Sting's hometown of Los Angeles? When is the Hall Of Fame induction? If not Wrestlemania, will it be the next night on Raw?" The list goes on. Regardless, with some actual validity behind this one, personally I cannot wait for Stinger to make a splash in WWE (pun intended).

CM PUNK QUITS WWE

This is even more interesting than the Sting situation. While many say they think that this is true, nobody can give 100% that this isn't some kind of "work". When everything is "analyzed" by at least us "outsiders", everything points to both a legit walk out and a scripted event.
Legit: Drained both mentally and physically from a grueling schedule, mixed with frustrations with "Creative". Needing a break is totally understandable.
Work: With similarities with Stone Cold in the past, this "take your ball and go home" moment is very familiar with what happened with Austin back in the day, where he was just totally burnt out. Absence can also make the heart grow fonder as they say, Punk is already "over", imagine the size of the crowd pop he would get upon a return?
Everyone says we likely haven't seen the last of CM Punk in a WWE ring, but who knows, maybe we have.

NEW WRESTLING PROMOTION

Another rumor making its rounds is that former co-founder of TNA Wrestling, Jeff Jarrett left his "office" job with the company to possibly form a brand new wrestling promotion with country music star, Toby Keith. Jarrett and Keith were apparently close to buying the sinking ship that appears to be TNA, from the Carter's. Supposedly the deal went south when Bob Carter's only stipulation was the Dixie stay on in the same spot (title as well as tv spots), with the same amount of stroke she had when her father owned the company. If that is truly the case, we all should be thankful Jarrett and Keith walked away from what would clearly be a bad business venture.
If Double J and Toby really are bringing us a new promotion, it will be interesting to see for many reasons. Will it be new? Will it just be TNA 2.0? Successful? Can it compete with the WWE? Will they even try too? AJ Styles needs a new home, unless WWE gets smart and gives him a chance. Plus, there's always the question of how long until Jarrett puts the main belt on himself. Half joking on that one. I did enjoy some of his runs as Champ with WCW and TNA.

WHO'S #22?

I've come across rumors stating that WWE was hoping for Brock Lesner Vs Undertaker, but it isn't a lock. John Cena was also another high on the rumor list to be facing the Deadman, but rumors all seem to point to Cena Vs Bray Wyatt at the big show. I haven't come across anything stating so, but remember the last time we saw Undertaker. The red hot Shield took over his yard. Well, fast forward to present day, and we have what looks like a possible if not likely split amongst the talented trio. Why not have that happen at or during the aftermath of becoming victims number 22? With Reigns being over, perhaps Ambrose or Rollins try to steal the glory or turn on Reigns causing the loss, I would go with Rollins with the turn, being played out as the voice of reason at the moment and Ambrose is too obvious....wait...why am I even thinking about this group breaking up? Likely will happen though, the split. Who knows, maybe Punk will come back if given the option to do the honors a second year in a row, if he returns.
