Well, I have been thinking, which is all I ever do really aha But, I find myself still a bit confused, no, more like intrigued, by the DC re-launch. Yesterday I mentioned how Hal Jordan is not the Green Lantern, and that Sinestro would be taking over. But, as I was relooking through "DC Comics: The New 52 #1" again, and realized that good ole Hal was still sporting the Lanterns ring, he can be found in Justice League Of America. So, I now wonder if Sinestro's run will be long term or just a chance to watch him succumb to the power of Fear?
Speaking of JLA, I wasn't planning on buying and reading the title, I prefer all things Gotham, but I am a fan of Jim Lee's art work, and that's who is behind the pencils for JLA. Might have to as I love his version of the Bat. Was glad to see Kubert (get Adam and Andy confused a lot) had a run in Batman. And hope he returns! When I was "denied" Batman as a kid (wasn't sold where I lived!), it was the X-titles that filled the void. "X-Men #25" and "Wolverine #75" are still some of my all time favourite comic books based on the art work alone.
So, like I said I am intrigued. I was since they announced the re-launch. I admit, is some fear there also. Examples such as Harley joining Suicide Squad don't make me a happy camper, I do however love her new look. The red and black hair does make her more "up to date" in my opinion. Plus I can't wait to color half of my girlfriends hair red for Wizard Worlds 2012 Toronto Comic Con aha! And its the appearance of things that truly have me intrigued. I am a wanna-be artist, so the "look" of everyone and everything has me in can't wait mode.
Here's a list of things that I wonder about concerning mostly Bat-titles, some are already answered, but wonder how long that will last.
- The Batcave. How it will look and what it will contain.
- Batvehicles. What will the Batmobile look like, what other vehicles will make their way into The
Batcave. - Arkham Asylum. The look and the history behind it. Will "All-Star Western" affect the history at all?
- Villains. What will they look like? Who will even make it into print? How will their origins change if at all?
- Batgirl. Barbara Gordon is once again dawning the cape and cowl. Will her paralyses and the events that occurred at the hands of The Joker be erased? Altered? Or will she be similar to Bruce Wayne after Bane broke his back?
- Nightwing. Red Hood. Red Robin. How will their history change if at all? With Damian now as Robin beside his father Bruce, how did Bruce find time to train all three of these guys as Robin before him? I read the clock was rolling back a bit, but if they don't then this works. If not, then my question remains.
- How long will Poison Ivy remain in "Birds Of Prey"? Or have we lost a main villain and its not to a a great series like "Gotham City Sirens"? Don't read "BOP", but I do/did read "GCS" so its the preferred aha
- How long will Harley Quinn stay away from her Puddin'? Read Ivy's for same thing.
- WHO WILL SURVIVE? I have read in a few places that DC is willing to axe a title if the sales are low. Will all the Bat-titles make the cut? How about returning legends like Swamp Thing?
I am curious about other things (Superman's not with Lois Lane apparently? Forever? Or is this a redo of their relationship?), and I am sure this is DC's plan. Drop hints to keep us wondering. I just pray that Comic Book Nerds aren't like Star Wars fans were with Episodes I-III. Personally (shields head), I prefer the newer Star Wars over the old. Why? Umm, Lightsabers? Jedi? Sith? How could you not get lost in Obi Wan
and Anakin's epic battle in "Revenge Of The Sith"? Not just the look, but the skill involved (those glowing beams are actually green poles, so it is open to accidents).
I am getting sidetracked aha! Back to the comic books.
Like I had said, some of my questions were possibly answered already. Here is a list of things that I have picked up on from "DC Comics: The New 52 #1". Will focus more on Batman, as I can notice some things art wise that aren't the "stereotype".
- Superman loses the tights. Now, he has Jeans and a Superman T-Shirt. With a little red cape....or does he? While "Action Comics #1" shows hints of what I mentioned, but "Superman #1" (as well as "JLA") he is sporting a suit. Not the classic suit, this is all blue, with red boots, belt and cape. The Superman emblem is similar, yet slightly changed from what I can tell.
- Was Superboy a cyborg? I know not always, but circa Death Of Superman? I dunno. Don't like the look. But just my imo.
- Maybe its just an error, but Sinestro rocks his ring on his left hand, where all other Lanterns wear them on their right.
- A member of the Red Lanterns could pass for Harley Quinn. Gawd I hope she ends up back in Gotham.
- The Riddler sports a green mow hawk in the shape of "?". Really?
- Killer Croc is a Croc? He's green so I get the walking crocodile vibe. I really like the version in "Joker".
- Speaking of him, looks like the lost that bullet hole scar on his forehead (at least I hope, looked silly and I got a vibe from it I won't mention). Hard to tell which "look" they are going to go with. Hoping for a Heath, or better yet straight out of "Joker". Newer readers are going to to recognize or relate to the style that Heath portrayed in "The Dark Knight". But, I am being very bias on this one aha
- DC is milking the name of Batman? There are eleven titles that are Batman, or stemmed directly from Batman ("Nightwing", "Red Hood and The Outlaws", etc). And if you add other titles that will include the Dark Knight ("JLA"," Justice League International") that makes 13, and with Red Robin in "Teen Titans" there lies a chance for another appearance. Not complaining, just pointing it out aha!
"Captain America: First Avenger" opens this weekend. I won't be going. Money is tight, and when I got it, I am spending it on DC films. As I feel they need the help more now that Marvel has the marketing machine that is Disney behind them now. I'll just wait for the DVD. Those I collect both Marvel and DC ahaahahahahaahahahahaahahahahaa!
WOW. I can honestly say I almost never considered any of those aspects. You need to find a newspaper and become a columnist! ;) (This is W.W. btw). :D
ReplyDeleteWhy thanks. To have my opinion in print and possibly with pay is quite intriguing ahaha
