So, in just over an hour, I will be turning 30 years old. The Dirty 30. I don't "want to", however I heard that 40 is the new 20, so that makes me 10 years of age, and that makes me feel better ahaha At 10, I was entering my initial run as a comic book reader. Starting out with Batman titles, moving to X-Men titles, taking a break, and now returning a la the Bat and some Lanterns. Although it was the heroes that brought me in, it was the villains that kept me interested every month. More so than the heroes of the selected title, the villains have to evolve more often to "stay alive" or find themselves killed off for good or simply never heard from again.

So, while I wait for midnight, which I am also off to the mall to pick up my pre-ordered copy of Batman: Arkham City for PS3, I figured this blog entry I would list my favorite Villains, past n present, from the materials that I have read (or watched in some cases).

The Joker. He was the villain in the movie that brought me into comic books, Batman (1989), and he was the man who brought me back in The Dark Knight. Like all other characters that have survived 75 years, he has evolved with the times, each incarnation keeping him a top the list of Batman's rogue gallery. His accomplishments including biggies like; crippling Batgirl (Barbara Gordon), and "killing" the second Robin (Jason Todd). His current character is still in the air, with readers being left with a faceless Mr. J who is on the run, causing chaos as per usual. What will the "new" Clown Prince Of Crime bring to the table when he is back at the forefront? Dunno, but history shows, you won't wanna miss it.

Sabretooth. When I read the X-titles, he was to me, what Wolverine would be if he chose to not to be a hero, but without the adamantium skeleton. Which was something that I always wanted them to do to Victor Creed, so that he could be Logan's "equal" and we could witness some epic battles between the two. But, as far as I know, it never happened. Don't read but still say it should happen. In the movies, I most definitely preferred the Sabretooth in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, than the one portrayed in the initial X-Men movie.

Carnage. Eddie Brock's cousin Cletus Kasady mixed with the "offspring" of the Venom symbiote, gives us Carnage. Homicidal mass murderer, and is visually amazing, just the way that I like them. I am hoping to see Carnage portrayed on the big screen. As long as they keep the Venom bulkier, as in Spider-Man 3 Venom looked more like Carnage build wise, which through it off for me.

Sinestro. Haven't read any back stories, just what I have picked up through reviews, etc. But I like the fallen hero types at times. Starting as a Green Lantern harnessing the power of Will, then falling to the dark side rising with his own Sinestro Corps, using the power of Fear. He is back in hero-mode somewhat in the relaunched Green Lantern title, but it is possible for him to change back on a whim, or like Atrocitus, become the anti-hero this time around. Mark Strong owns the character in the Green Lantern movie, something I am sure the critics would agree with, or should.

Doomsday. Not a big fan of Superman really. Too Perfect for my tastes, as I did  enjoy the character in the television series Smallville, but in other forms I don't care for the last son of Krypton. Doomsday killed him, however brief that it may have been, he did it. For that I love the character ahaha He is also another that I would like to see portrayed on the big screen, whooping Supes arse like only he can.

There are many others, pretty much all the Batman villains including the campy 1960's television show villains like Egghead, there is Omega Red and Stryfe from the X-Men universe, even the now anti-hero Atrocitus from Red Lanterns. Which is also something that I noticed among some listed above is that they are/were at least an anti-hero type. Even The Joker at times can be that way, if you look deep of course haha But, I think that in a lot of cases great Villains would make for great heroes, just none of that "don't kill" stuff like Batman and others,

It is also my Sweets (girlfriend) birthday in just over an hour, so I finish this one off by trying to earn some brownie points and say, Happy Birthday Sweets, I Love You!
